"Mr. Pine's Purple House"
by Leonard Kessler (A '49). Purple House Press, 2000.
Carnegie Mellon Magazine, summer 2002. By Ann Curran.
When Kessler heard that the 1965 edition of his children's book, which originally sold for 59 cents, was going for $300 on eBay, he took notice. A new edition, still written and illustrated by Kessler, captures in black and white and purple the funny story of Mr. Pine trying to define his individuality in a look-alike row of houses. Kessler has illustrated some 200 books. He wrote many of them. He and his wife Ethel Gerson Kessler (A '44) collaborated on more than 40 children's books.
