A party celebrating the re-publication of "Mr. Pine's Mixed-Up Signs," written by Len Kessler 40 years ago, was held at The Wilbanks in Pelican Cove the other night. It seems a couple of years ago, Len had a phone call from a Texas housewife who said that his "Mr. Pine's Purple House" was her favorite book as a child and what had once cost her 59 cents was offered on the Internet for $300. Jill Morgan asked for both the rights and the use of Purple House Press for her publishing name. Len agreed and even gave her a logo of a turtle reading.
The books can be special ordered from Barnes & Noble, through Amazon.com ("Purple House" was also the favorite book of Jeff Bezos, president and CEO of Amazon.com), or you can call Len direct at 966-2618. It costs $16.
Len and his wife, Ethel, created some 45 children's books, and Len is back to the drawing board, even as we speak, writing another.
"Every day I'm eye level with the 6-year-old kid in me," the 81-year-old author said. "Maybe next year I'll turn 7, but I doubt it."
