Leonard Kessler created books for more than fifty years and illustrated over 200 books, many which he also wrote. He and his wife, Ethel, collaborated on forty books for young children, including Stan the Hot Dog Man. Both graduated from Carnegie Mellon University.
Three of Leonard's books were named to the New York Times Ten Best Illustrated Books for Children list. The Kesslers lived for many years in Rockland County, New York, and retired to Sarasota, Florida. They had two grown children and four grandchildren.
